This project enabled me to gain new skills in
Graphic Design. I learnt about the importance of colour schemes and how it
helps to create an interesting piece. I also learnt about typography, that
it should be used as an image element and the font used should be one which
works in rhythm with the rest of the piece. These new skills I learnt have
helped me understand more about graphic design which I can take with me in
future.
I also developed personal skills during this time. This
project has enabled me to become more independent and organised. By doing this project from home I learnt about the responsibility which must be taken. These
skills will help me when I attend university as I have already experienced lots
of independent study. It has also helped me become more confident in my own work and see the strengths
and weaknesses in my work.
An artist
that inspired me greatly in this project is Roy Lichtenstein, specifically his pop art. The bold colours and think
black lines he uses are very eye catching and bold. They make a statement. I
wanted to integrate this into my work to make my own bold statement. I was also
influenced by the 80s era. The neon colours also make a statement. Hence with
the joint styles of neon and pop art I could create a very striking piece.
After deciding on these aspects to add to my design, I went on
to focus on developing my final piece. Due to the band name being ‘Pisces’ I
researched about the zodiac sign, learning about the characteristics and
constellation. Furthermore, from this I adapted to a sea theme. I wanted to use
this theme in my work.
My final design was inspired by the 80’s neon, pop art and the
sea theme. I am pleased with my final outcome. It is very eye catching due to
the colour scheme. The design with the face is easily seen from afar, which is
what I aimed for as it can be noticed. It presents the sea theme with the blue
colour and the polka dot shells in the background. The pop art theme is shown
with the face and the shell polka dot background. The 80s theme can be seen
with the neon and geometric shapes. This final piece enabled me to learn about
the importance of composition of design.
